Culture and Intellectual Property

This chapter centers on how and why culture affects IP, with four topics for discussion. The USA and China are two distinct countries in culture and serve as typical comparators to aid understanding. First, we examine how different levels of education can impact people’s understanding of IP, but IP training can change their perspectives. Second, we look at the ways in which religious principles can directly and indirectly affect IP attitudes. Third, we consider the effects of different social classes on attitudes toward IP. Finally, we study how the language as a cultural element affects IP understanding.
